How to connect and use your medical records in the WHOOP app

Connecting your medical records to a wearable isn't a small decision. You're sharing a category of data with WHOOP that has, until now, lived only with your clinicians, and the bar for explaining what that connection does and doesn't do should be high.
WHOOP members in the United States who are 18 and older can connect their electronic health records to the WHOOP app with HealthEx, connecting their conditions, medications, procedures, and labs to their daily WHOOP data.
What HealthEx is, and how it works with WHOOP
HealthEx is a secure, consumer-driven platform that consolidates fragmented medical records from multiple healthcare providers into one place. It connects to participating US health systems, handles authentication, retrieves your records, and gives you a single place to control which apps can access them.
Once you authenticate, locate your points of care, and approve the connection, your records move securely from your providers, through HealthEx, into WHOOP. HealthEx manages the provider connection, authentication, location, retrieval, and transfer of records into WHOOP, while WHOOP uses the information you approve to provide more informed coaching and insights.
The integration is built around three core principles: participation is always opt-in, you stay in control of what’s shared, and you can disconnect at any time. Everything below follows from those principles.
How to connect your medical records
The integration lives in the integrations tab in the App Settings section of the WHOOP app. Members in the United States who are 18 or older will see HealthEx listed as an available connection. You connect through HealthEx, confirm what you want to share with WHOOP, and your records sync into the app.
Once connected, WHOOP builds your Health Record Analysis: a snapshot of the health record information now available to your coaching context. The Integration Details screen shows what’s connected, lets you refresh to get the latest records, and gives you the option to disconnect if you choose to stop sharing your data.
What information WHOOP receives
Through HealthEx, WHOOP can receive four categories of information from participating US providers:
- Conditions and diagnoses. Active and historical conditions in your record. Examples include hypertension, thyroid conditions, and chronic pain.
- Medications. Current and historical prescriptions, with the dates each was prescribed.
- Procedures. Clinical interventions in your history, including surgeries, treatments, and similar entries from your record.
- Lab results. Bloodwork results from your provider visits.
The Health Record Analysis screen in the app shows exactly what came through. You can review it before deciding to keep the connection active.
Where your records show up in the app
Your records don't sit in a separate corner of the app. They show up in the WHOOP features you already use:
- WHOOP AI. When you ask AI a question about your metrics, it can reference relevant conditions, medications, and procedures alongside your daily metrics. The answer is grounded in both at the same time.
- My Memory. Imported records flow into My Memory, the long-term context layer in WHOOP. Once your conditions, medications, and procedures are in My Memory, you don't need to re-explain them every time you ask a question. Your context carries forward.
How WHOOP uses the data
The integration is designed for context, not clinical interpretation. WHOOP uses your records to make coaching more relevant in three ways:
Personalization. Medical context can help WHOOP understand your daily metrics more clearly. A low Recovery score for a member managing a thyroid condition may have different context than the same score for someone without that history.
Recommendations. WHOOP recommendations for Strain, Recovery, and Sleep update as new data comes in. With HealthEx, those recommendations can also reflect relevant medical context, such as current medications, recent procedures, or ongoing conditions.
Patterns over time. When your medical history sits alongside your WHOOP data, the app can surface trends with more context. That can help you better understand what may be shaping changes in your sleep, recovery, and strain.
WHOOP does not diagnose, treat, or interpret your records the way a clinician does. Your records are an input to coaching context, not a clinical assessment. Questions about your conditions, medications, procedures, labs, or care plan should stay with your healthcare provider.
Your data, your control
The controls are built around three guarantees:
- Nothing imports without your consent. You decide whether to connect. You decide which records to share. The integration does not pull data from your record until you authenticate and confirm.
- You can see exactly what WHOOP has access to. The Health Record Analysis shows the conditions, medications, procedures, and labs that came through. You can review it as often as you like.
- You can disconnect at any time. Choosing to disconnect stops new data from flowing in. You can also request to download or delete your data at any time.

Frequently asked questions
How does WHOOP AI coaching use my medical records?
- Once you connect through HealthEx, the records you choose to share, including conditions, medications, procedures, and labs, become available to WHOOP. WHOOP AI can reference that context when answering questions, so guidance reflects more than your daily metrics alone. Your records provide context; they are not used to make medical diagnoses.
What makes WHOOP insights more personalized?
- WHOOP insights are personalized through the biometric data it collects from your body over time. With HealthEx, the medical history you choose to share can add another layer of context, helping WHOOP interpret patterns in your sleep, recovery, strain, and overall health trends.
Does WHOOP give recommendations based on my health history?
- WHOOP recommendations for Strain, Recovery, and Sleep update as new data comes in. With HealthEx, those recommendations can also reflect relevant medical context, like current medications, recent procedures, or ongoing conditions, so guidance is more specific to you.
Is the HealthEx integration secure?
- HealthEx verifies member identity, requires explicit consent before any data is accessed, and protects all information with enterprise-grade encryption consistent with HIPAA standards. As a federally recognized IAS provider under TEFCA, HealthEx also maintains independent security certifications including SOC 2 Type II, and gives members full control to review or withdraw their consent at any time.
How is my medical data protected?
- WHOOP will never sell your health records or use them for advertising. Your medical history is used solely to personalize your WHOOP experience. You control what's shared, and you can disconnect or request deletion at any time.
Does the integration cost extra?
- No. The HealthEx integration is available to eligible WHOOP members at no additional cost.
What happens if I disconnect?
- Disconnecting stops new data from flowing in from your providers. You can also request to download or delete your data through WHOOP’s Privacy Policy.
