WHOOP and Orlando Health Launch Wearable Pilot Program to Advance Chronic Condition Care

Innovative initiative leverages the continuous health monitoring technology from WHOOP to support patients with COPD

Orlando, FL (Oct. 28, 2025)Orlando Health is launching a new wearable technology pilot program in collaboration with WHOOP, the human performance company, to improve chronic condition management and enhance patient recovery after discharge. The pilot, beginning this fall at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital in Clermont, will focus on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - a leading cause of hospital readmissions nationwide.

Through this pilot, patients will receive WHOOP devices at discharge. The devices continuously capture a wide range of physiological metrics, including heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate, blood oxygen skin temperature, and sleep performance. These insights will be shared with Orlando Health’s outpatient care management team, enabling them to monitor patient progress and intervene proactively to prevent complications or readmissions.

“This program will be an incredible asset to our providers since we’ll be able to see patients’ sleep patterns, movement, stress levels and more as they recover at home,” said Stephanie Dietz, MD, medical director, Orlando Health Value-Based Care and Population Health. “This way, we can ensure we see critical changes in real time and can arrange next steps for our patients right away, promoting a safe and speedier recovery.”

The collaboration leverages expertise of  WHOOP  in continuous, research-grade physiological monitoring, trusted by elite athletes, military organizations, and healthcare partners worldwide. With the WHOOP platform, Orlando Health providers can access actionable, longitudinal health data outside the hospital setting - offering a more complete picture of a patient’s recovery and day-to-day well-being.

“We see the tremendous potential in utilizing wearable technology and advanced sensory data when it comes to patient care,” said Bobby Helmedag, vice president, Orlando Health Ventures. “Together with our technology partners, we’re exploring a new way to observe and monitor those with chronic conditions and therefore gain a deeper insight into our patients and how to best care for them.”

WHOOP joins BSecur and Sensr as part of this Orlando Health Ventures initiative, which sources and invests in innovative companies driving healthcare transformation. Future program expansions may explore additional chronic conditions and patient populations that can benefit from the data-driven health insights from WHOOP.
