Refining What Works, Redefining What’s Possible

The new lineup of Apparel & Accessories is built from real-world insights. The Apparel & Accessories team leverages member feedback to deliver performance, durability, and comfort in every scenario — improving old favorites and introducing new essentials. If you’ve been around for a while, you’re familiar with:

• SuperKnit – A long-time member favorite, built for 24/7 wear and excellent for sleep
• SportFlex – Engineered for high-intensity workouts and water resistance, featuring a durable, high-performance silicone
• CloudKnit – Designed for calm and comfort, with a luxury feel that transitions effortlessly from relaxation to light activity

LeatherLuxe is a great example of a band that is filling a gap for members. “LeatherLuxe was created to solve a key member need,” Joel explains. “We knew 

our members wanted a band that could match their jewelry, watches, and suits — something that elevates WHOOP without sacrificing performance.”

Changing the Game with ECG Capability 

With the introduction of WHOOP MG, the team had to find a way to support on-demand electrocardiogram (ECG) readings — taken directly from your WHOOP. For the first time ever, WHOOP bands support ECG readings via the WHOOP Life membership. ECG-compatible bands feature a unique ECG indent, a design breakthrough driven by the Product & Hardware teams. Bruce Kynoch, Product Manager II and Ben Peterson, Tech Lead, Mechanical Engineering, broke down how they arrived at this design: 

“The design of the ECG indents for WHOOP MG was born out of an engineering challenge: achieving optimal ECG readings while maintaining an intuitive user experience.” 

Throughout this process, the main priority remained: to ensure that the product works, and that WHOOP members are getting the premium experience they have come to expect. For the clasp to be used as an ECG electrode, the physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating needed to allow for electrical signals to pass — but, most manufacturers limit the number of colors that can accomplish this. To maintain the member experience, our team was committed to finding a way to still use vibrant colors that members have come to love. 

Once the ECG indents and PVD coating were finalized, the Product & Hardware team began the process of ensuring functionality. The team began clinical studies over 2 years ago. “Not only did the new coating need to look good on day one,” says Bruce. “We wanted to ensure the coating would continue to function as expected after a lifetime of real use.”

Thanks to this commitment to innovation, ECG-compatible bands are now available in a variety of materials, colors, and finishes.
